Movement disorders are a complex and rapidly expanding area of neurology. This field includes f.e. Parkinson’s Disease, Dystonia, Tremor, Spasticity after Stroke and Multiple Sclerosis. They produce a wide range of symptoms and almost all are chronic, thus generating a huge burden of disease that in most cases can only be met by an interdisciplinary therapeutic team.
Although very common amongst the elderly, most therapists still feel a need for a better understanding of movement disorders. Increasing debates on therapy guidelines and evidence-based medicine further support a coordinated multimodal treatment approach bringing together physicians and health professionals. This is exactly what our Interdisciplinary Working Group for Movement Disorders (IAB) wants to promote.
IAB is the only structured platform that offers a collaboration of all takeholders, whether patients and relatives or therapists.
