INVENTOR OF BOTOX® VISITS HANNOVER MEDICAL SCHOOL

 

csm_DSC07573_0b3cced8eaEric A. Johnson, Professor of Bacteriology at the US University of Wisconsin-Madison, visits the Movement Disorders Section of Hannover Medical School. Professor Johnson is acknowledged as the inventor of Botox®, the first drug founding botulinum toxin therapy. Together with Professor Edward Schantz he converted the infamous bacterial poison into a highly effective drug which is now used with remarkable success in many medical specialties throughout the world. In the meantime, global sales of botulinum toxin drugs are exceeding 6 to 8 Billion US Dollars. After its therapeutic use was established Botox® was later used for wrinkle treatment in esthetic medicine. Professor Johnson was visiting Professor Dirk Dressler, Head of Movement Disorders Section. Professor Dressler is one of the clinical pioneers of botulinum toxin therapy in Europe. His department is one of the world’s largest users of botulinum toxin. The meeting took place to explore posibilities for collaboration in the development of new botulinum toxin drugs. ‘Eric is the leading expert of botulinum toxin drugs. We are happy to have him as partner to jointly develop new and improved botulinum toxin drugs’.
