Tongji University in Shanghai appointed Professor Dr. Dr. Dirk Dressler as co-director of its new Neurotoxin Research Center. This research institution was recently launched with a grand opening ceremony attended by distinguished scientists and senior representatives of Tongji University and Chinese government authorities. In his opening address, Dressler reviewed the history behind this project with all its challenges. ‘Despite the Corona pandemic we managed to form a world-wide unique research institution dedicated to botulinum toxin and its numerous clinical applications.’ This project is based on the well-established cooperation between Hannover Medical School and Tongji University. With this institution, Tongji University wants to enhance its reputation as one of Chinese leading medical faculties. ‘What we see here is a wise investment of China in its scientific and pharmaceutic capacities certainly also radiating along the silk road towards the West,’ said Dressler.
